It was hers.
Hers to stay alive.
Hers to guard.
Hers to break.
Words were written there.
They became hers when she believed them.
Letters in permanent ink.
Words like “victim.”
“Unlovable.”
“Untouchable.”
“Unforgivable.”
“Unchanging.”
And words like “pride.”
“Pretty.”
“Powerful.”
“Obsessed.”
Her lips and actions spoke the words written.
Actions like deceit.
Lies and lust.
Envy and vanity.
She ignored the words, “Guard your heart,”
And one day, it tore.
The words on our hearts affect us and those around us. If we believe our lives are pointless or better than everyone else’s, our actions and choices will illustrate it. The same goes if we believe our lives and the lives around us have value. So, we should be careful what we write on our hearts, what we believe, and what we consume because those words are not easily erased.
