With Valentine’s Day being just over a week ago, I thought it fitting to share a quote that discusses love: one of the most popular topics in songs, books, and movies. But what is it, anyway? What do you think about when someone says the word?
Red roses. Butterflies in your stomach. Starry eyes and moonlit skies. Kissing at sunset and dancing in the rain might come to mind. These are all beautiful things, but the truth is, love doesn’t always look like roses.
It can look like the mother wiping spit-up from her baby’s clothes at three in the morning, or the father answering his four-year-old’s thirtieth, “Why?” It can look like the girl crying beside her friend because her friend just lost her mom. It’s the grandfather holding his wife’s hand while she’s in the hospital with dementia. And it’s a perfect Man nailed to a cross, taking on the sin of the world. The picture of true love doesn’t always look beautiful, but it transforms the darkness into light.
“Love is a great beautifier.”
Louisa May Alcott, Little Women
May you have a blessed week and remember how much you are loved.
