Happy December! We have officially entered the Christmas season, and I thought it would be fun to use lyrics from Christmas songs for this month’s quotes. As I briefly mentioned last week, it’s easy to get caught in the hustle and bustle of our society during this time of year. Companies constantly make Christmas-themed advertisements to get us to buy the latest and greatest products, and Black Friday brings sales that beg us to spend more money. Even the classic song “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” states, “Dolls that’ll talk and will go for a walk is the hope of Janice and Jen.” This just goes to show how much consumerism has taken over this meaningful holiday. Of course, there is nothing inherently wrong about gifts on Christmas, but we should step back and (pardon the cliché) remember the true meaning of the holiday.
The quote I chose for today isn’t the most inspirational and profound; however, it makes a good starting point for a thought-provoking question. What does Christmas look like to you? Why does it matter? Is it special because of the gifts and the fuzzy feelings, or is there something more to it?
