There’s a section in my Notes app
That I titled “Writing Notes.”
You ask me what it’s for,
So I tell you,
“I like to jot down ideas before I forget them.”
But really, it’s almost poetry.
Forty pages worth of scattered thoughts.
Fragments of my imagination.
You ask to read it.
“No.”
It’s almost poetry: not finished yet.
It’s pieces of me that I still haven’t found.
Then you ask if I can explain.
I tell you that I can’t.
It’s like the film that still needs developing,
Or the story that still craves an ending.
It’s like you and me.
It’s like this poem and the questions
That never get answered.
It’s my world of unfinished things.
When you think about it, we all have those “almost poems.” The fill-in-the-blank stories that we’re still trying to find the words for. The pages in our notes that we like to title “Bucket Lists,” “Baby Names,” and “Exercise Routines.” They’re the someday’s and the somehow’s of our lives that we say we’ll get to eventually, so we keep calling them “almost.”
I hope this “unfinished” poem not only brought you some enjoyment but also gave you something to think about and relate to. It’s okay to put things on hold and take you’re time. After all, we’re works in progress ourselves: still growing and learning. However, it’s also important to finish what we start, even if we’re afraid it won’t end the way we want it to.
